3.8 Round Robin + double elimination

Game mode

For this round robin + double elimination tournament, we set up a round robin gamemode (more info on how to do this, can be found here) with the following settings:

  • Group size: 8

  • Amount of games to win a round robin match: 1

  • Round robin rounds: 1

  • Limit players advancing based on total bracket size: in this example we will toggle this feature on. More info on this feature can be found here.

  • Maximum amount of players converting to bracket stage: 8

  • Amount of free wins in the final for the winner of the upper bracket: 1

  • Maximum participants: empty

Brackets

A total of 16 players signed up, divided over 2 brackets, each containing 8 participants. Every player, within the same group, will play one match against every other player. Click the ‘Brackets’ tab, and the group stage bracket will show up:

On the upper right you can change between viewing the group stage, the bracket stage and the lower bracket stage:

All matches from the group stage will need to be played before the bracket stage will generate their matches, in this phase of the tournament the upper and bracket stages will be empty.

Matches

The bracket division clearly states which matches will be played in the first fixture for each group. Click on the ‘Match’ tab, the following screen will appear

Every group will host 7 matches (named fixture 1, fixture 2 and fixture 3, etc) so all players within the same group have played against each other.

The player with the most wins, will be declared winner of it’s group, this is indicated by ‘#W’ underneath the players’ names. After 7 matches in every group, the bracket screen could look something like this:

The winners of each group are Chubby Queen and Rude Hole.

However, we set up the game mode like this:

  • Limit teams advancing based on total bracket size: toggle on

  • Maximum amount of teams converting to bracket stage: 8

  • Amount of games to win a bracket match: 1

  • Amount of games to win the grand final: 2

  • Maximum participants: empty

This results in a bracket stage where 8 participants from the group stage can compete in the double elimination part:

Now the tournament will continue according to the double elimination flow. More information on this can be found here. When a player loses a match in the upper bracket, the player will be transferred to the lower bracket. When the player loses another match in the lower bracket, the player will be eliminated from the tournament.

End results

When all the matches are played and all the scores are submitted in the group and bracket stage:

  • the ‘Upper bracket’ screen should look something like this:

  • The ‘Lower bracket’ screen should look something like this:

  • The ‘Finals’ screen should look something like this:

The eventual results are displayed on the ‘Results’ and should look something like this:
