2.8 Prizepools
Prizepools are an important part of the tournament and league creation process. They determine the rewards participants receive upon participating in a tournament or league. These rewards can be coins, tickets, or any other custom currency available on the platform.
More information on how to set up your platform currencies can be found here
Note: Although experience points are also awarded to players when participating in tournaments, experience points are not included within a prizepool.
Tournaments
You’ll have to set up a prize pool for each individual tournament. Although it is recommended to provide a prizepool for a tournament, this isn’t mandatory and you can create a tournament without a prizepool at any given time.
First of all, you’ll need to create a tournament. More information on how to create a tournament can be found here:
Via Control Panel → Tournament
During the tournament creation process, you’ll see the reward section. Enable the Prizepool increase per participant toggle. The following screen will appear:
Amount: Determine the amount of currency you want to pay out. Currency: Determine the type of currency you want to pay out. Limit total pool: Submit a limitation to the amount of currency the prizepool can contain in total. Payout calculation: Select which payout model you want to use. Add another currency to the prizepool by clicking the '+' icon. |
The prizepool will be displayed in the tournament’s General tab like this:
More information on how the actual payout after a tournament or league can be found here.
Leagues
You’ll have to set up a prize pool for every league. Although it is recommended to provide a prizepool for a league, this isn’t mandatory and you can create a tournament without a prizepool at any given time.
First of all, you’ll need to create a league. More information on how to create a tournament can be found here:
Via Control Panel → Leagues
During the league creation process, you’ll see the reward section. Enable the Prizepool increase per participant toggle. The following screen will appear:
Amount: Determine the amount of currency you want to pay out. Currency: Determine the type of currency you want to pay out. Limit per participant: Submit a limitation to the amount of currency per participant Limit total pool: Submit a limitation to the amount of currency the prizepool can contain in total. Payout calculation: Select which payout model you want to use. Linear: The best player receives the highest amount of currency pay out - the worst player receives the lowest amount of currency pay out. Equal: Every player receives the same amount of currency pay out. Exponential: Introducing an exponential algorithm to the payout, by increasing the percentage in which the player receives the currency. This results in an even higher increase than the linear payout model. Match equal: Every player receives the same amount of currency pay out after every match. Add another currency to the prizepool by clicking the '+' icon. |
Payout models
During the setup of a tournament or league, you can determine which payout model you want to use during the prizepool section of the setup.
Knowing which payout model works best for your type of tournament or league is very important in order to reward participants in the best way possible.
Linear: The best player receives the highest amount of currency pay out - the worst player receives the lowest amount of currency pay out. The intervals between the payouts of different positions is determined by a certain algoritm. Equal: Every player receives the same amount of currency pay out. Linear/Equal brackets: all brackets get the same size of prizepool to distribute between the brackets. Winner equal brackets: only the winner of each bracket gets an equal part of the total prizepool. |
Top N - equal brackets: a select number of participants will receive a certain percentage of the prizepool.
|
Fixed - equal brackets: you can customize the payout amount of every rank. |
Buy-in
The buy-in feature distinguishes itself from the regular prizepool system. Instead of letting the platform bank provide the payout, the payout sum is collected from the players. An application fee from the players is asked in order to participate in the tournament, this is called a ‘buy-in’. The sum of all player’s fees will then be divided and rewarded accordingly to the calculation model of your choice (linear, equal, etc.).
More information on buy-in tournaments can be found here.
Note: A fixed percentage of the buy-in prizepool will be redirected to the platform at the end of the tournament.
